Virus Attack On Smartphone

In China, more  than 1 million Chinese mobile phone users have unwittingly sent spam messages, costing them around 2 million yuan (US$300,000) a day, after their phones were recently infected by malware and they are calling it the zombie viruses. And BEWARE... there are still other smartphone viruses out there ready to attack ur phones What has the world come to when viruses are even attacking your phones. These Smartphone viruses should be taken seriously or you will end up losing more money than what you shelled out for your Smartphones. And Research shows that these virus attacks has doubled last year.
The virus attack Smartphone can come in many forms. One of the most prevalent mobile attack is the credit attack. Users are tricked to make a subscriber dial on a premium-rate number. You will just know you have been tricked after your monthly bill comes and find that you have been charged for a premium call you never made. The virus news for Smartphone users should warn everyone that the potential risk of attack is very strong. Hackers can even steal banking information from you by spying on your phone like recording call and text messages.
Unlike the PC virus, the mobile viruses are principally designed to bring instant revenue to the hackers by stealing essential information. There are about 5 Billion mobile users in the world compared to a meager 2 Billion email usersDiscovering the hackers behind the virus is still proving difficult but Government is struggling to find the source of the virus which is said to be very clever in the way that it evades most anti-virus programs available to users.

Spear Phishing...

Spear phishing??? What the neraka is that?? Has it anything to do with fishing??? Of course not.
-Dumbass. -_-"
However, the word Phishing refers to a scam analogous to fishing — hence the name — in which the scammer tries to obtain valuable information by luring or baiting a person with an authentic-looking but phony communication that gains credibility by imitating a well-known corporate brand such as that of a bank, credit card company, etailer, social media site, or payment site. The term originated in 1996. Spear phishing continues the analogy and denotes a specific style of phishing.
Spear phishing is an e-mail spoofing fraud attempt that targets a specific organization, seeking unauthorized access to confidential data. As with the e-mail messages used in regular phishing expeditions, spear phishing messages appear to come from a trusted source. Phishing messages usually appear to come from a large and well-known company or Web site with a broad membership base, such as eBay or PayPal. In the case of spear phishing, however, the apparent source of the e-mail is likely to be an individual within the recipient's own company and generally someone in a position of authority.

The first step to fight spear phishing is to keep the scammers from getting your information in the first place. One way to do this is to keep too much identifying personal information out of your blog posts or social networking website. So don't post personal information on your blog or social networking page. Its the basic internet book. If your still doing this, your an idiot. Give yourself a slap. Secondly, when youset your spam filter on its strictest settings and add friends and institutions you do business with to your e-mail safe list. When you set up your e-mail account, immediately create a safe list of your friends' e-mails, and keep it updated when they change. Whenever you sign up for something like online banking or membership sites like ebay, save the confirmation e-mail and add that address to your safe list. That way any future correspondence from the legitimate business will go your inbox, and spear phishing e-mails will go to the trash. Lastly, always update your anti-virus, operating system and internet browser with the latest versions. Most anti-virus softwares now come with phishing filters. These will help you recognize when a e-mail is trying to download something onto your computer such as spyware, malware or a trojan horse to steal your personal information.
                                                                                                                                                                           Love,
                                                                                                                                                                                  Dwayne Apul

Autorun ATTACK!!!

Autorun is a traditional feature in windows operating systems that enable media like the CD ROMs, USB Devices, Memory Sticks, DVDs, etc. to automatically launch the programs stored in them. This happens through an autorun.inf file present in the root directory of the USB Device or CD ROM and it contains a list of commands that get executed, as soon as the media is inserted into the appropriates drives of the PC. You will typically find autorun.inf on installation CDs. Autorun is often confused with AutoPlay, a feature introduced in Windows XP. Though Microsoft intended it to be a useful feature, there are several viruses and malware that abuse the autorun.inf to spread itself.
Autorun Viruses spread themselves through removable media like USB frive, etc. They contain three executable files namely autorun.infkavo.exe and ntdelect.com. These are hidden files and they usually disable the Show hidden files and folders option, so that you can never see them. The only way to find these files is through the DOS command prompt.

How to delete Autorun Virus?

  • -First disable System Restore on all drives. To do this go to Control Panel -> System and  choose the System Restore tab. Check the option “Turn Off system Restore on all Drives
  • -Clear all temporary internet files in your browser
  • -Do a Disk Cleanup of all the drives on your PC. To do this, navigate to Start ->All Program ->Accessories ->System Tool ->Disk cleanup, choose the drive that you want to clean up and click OK.Once the drive is cleaned, proceed to cleanup the remaining drives

SCAREware!!! BEware!!!!

What is a scareware? Scareware refers to bogus sales tactics designed to scare a user into thinking his or her computer contains critical errors or viruses that must be fixed immediately. For a price, scareware ads offer an instant solution in the form of downloadable software. In some cases this software is harmless, in other cases the software meant to fix non-existent errors is actually spyware or some form of malware itself, victimizing consumers twice.

A scareware ad might pop-up at any time when cruising the Web. The ad can resemble a Microsoft window or it might trigger an actual window, leading people to believe the message is being generated by their own operating system. The pop-up warns the user that the computer is compromised in one or more ways and requires a fix. The warning might cite viruses or system errors such as registry errors. Clicking an “OK” button will take the user to the download site to buy the “fix.”
To avoid being targeted by scareware companies, employ a pop-up blocker configured to block third-party sites. If using XP SP1, upgrade to SP2 or disable Windows Messenger (versus Windows Live messenger), as this can be an entry point for malicious scripts. If you want to use an online scanner, look for recommendations from reputable sources like PCWorld or Tom’s Hardware. Better yet, download a reliable scanner and use it from your hard drive. If you practice good maintenance habits and have the usual guardian programs running, you have little reason to fear infections or errors.

How can you protect your computer???

There are many thing in the web that can harm your computer. Here are some ways to protect you compter :

1. Install Anti-Virus Software - This should not even have to be listed, if you don’t have anti-virus software installed, you’re asking for trouble! And if your reason for not installing anti-virus software is because it’s too expensive, then that can reason can be shot down because there are several free anti-virus programs out there that are considered better than commercial software packages. Here are two of the most popular ones:
AVG Anti-Virus – Very good and completely free.
Avast Anti-Virus – Almost on par with AVG.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus – Not free, but one of the best detection rates.

2. Update All Software - Installing an anti-virus program by itself is not enough. There are hundreds of new threats that are found daily and the anti-virus programs release updates regularly to combat the new threats. Make sure you anti-virus program is set to update automatically so that you don’t have to rely on your memory to do it. Also, this goes for all the software on your computer. The most important software to keep up to date is your Windows operating system. It is essential to have Automatic Updates turned on and set to download and install updates automatically.

3. Install only Trusted Software - If you’re not sure what a piece of software does from it’s name, then don’t install it. Also, don’t install anything you didn’t intend to install in the first place. Sometimes programs will ask you to install other programs during the install of the first application. Be careful of that because it’s usually spyware. Install software from big names sites only, such as Microsoft or Adobe.

4. Avoid P2P File Sharing Software – If used with great caution, P2P software is quite useful for movies, songs and software, but if you’re not very technically savvy, you might end up downloading a song that has a keystroke logger attached to it that will send anything you type to some other computer over the Internet. It’s almost impossible to tell that this is occurring unless your anti-virus or anti-spyware programs pick it up in their scans.

5. Delete Unknown Emails – If you receive emails from random people’s names, do not bother to open the email, just delete it. If you have any doubts after reading the name and the subject, it’s probably not someone you know. Never download or open attachments unless you are sure it’s from someone you know. Give the person a call quickly and ask them if you’re not sure. Most large companies that you create online accounts with will not send you attachments unless you specifically ask for them through their web site. Also, be wary of any emails from sites pretending to be banks, auction sites, etc asking for you to verify bank account info or address info. No bank ever does that.

6. Do not click on Ads - Avoid clicking on ads if you can. Especially those ads where something is flying around and if you shoot the duck, you win some prize! Ads have become more sophisticated in that they try to make the ad interactive so that you’ll be tempted to play it like a game.

7. Run Virus Scans Regularly – If you’re not in the mood to scan every day, at least run a scan once a week. Actually, setup a schedule for your computer in your anti-virus software to run a scan late at night or whenever you don’t use your computer and that way you won’t be bothered with a slow computer.

8. Be careful what you attach to your computer – This is a more common way to transfer viruses than you might think. Everyone now has a USB flash stick that they carry around on their key chains, ready to snap into any computer. But who knows what your viruses are on your friends computers and what accidentally got transferred to their USB stick. A lot of virus programs will auto launch right when the USB stick is put into the computer, so you don’t even have to open or download any of the files to be infected.

9. Avoid Shady Web SitesIf you need to look at porn, then make sure you do it in a virtual environment. You are DEFINITELY going to get some virus or spyware if you browse porn sites on your computer. Virtualization basically allows you to run programs like Internet Explorer in a virtual environment that does not effect your current operating system. If you want to find out more, search for “Virtual PC” or “VM Ware” in Google. Otherwise, simply avoid going to shady web sites!

10. Turn On or Install a Firewall - If you’re running Windows XP, make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. A firewall prevents hackers from gaining access to your computer by limiting the number of ports that are open to the public. Also, when buying a wireless router, make sure it has a built in firewall. Having a software and hardware firewall is better than just having one or the other.

11. Secure Your Wireless Network Most wireless routers are set to no security when you install them. Be sure to log into the router and at least set the basic security that requires a password. There are stronger encryption options, but if you don’t understand those, then simply set a password on the router, otherwise anyone can connect to your home network and access everything.

12. Use a Complex Password for Login – This means that you should already have a password to login to your computer. Not having a password at all is not a good idea. Create a password for all user accounts and make sure it’s complex. Complex means it should have numbers, upper case characters, lower case characters, and symbols. This makes it way more difficult for a hacker to get into your computer.

Social network : Facebook

Everyone knows about facebook. But whats the difrence between facebook and all the other social networks created before this like friendster, tagged, wholivesnearyou, etc.

Facebook website was first launched in February 2004 that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. And by January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. Unlike other social networks users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school, or college, or other characteristics. It also helps people advertise. Users can communicate with friends and other users through private or public messages and a chat feature.
Facebook allows anyone who declares themselves to be at least 13 years old to become a registered user of the website.A January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social network service by worldwide monthly active users, followed by MySpace. To allay concerns about privacy, Facebook enables users to choose their own privacy settings and choose who can see specific parts of their profile. From the privacy settings, users can also control who are able to sees information they have shared, as well as who can find them in searches.

Okay. Sayonara suckers!!! Byyyyiiissshhh....

Punishment for CyberCrime

There are various types cyber crimes. And the punishments for this crimes are very serious. Firstly lets list various cyber crimes we can think of.
1. Cybercrimes against persons.

2. Cybercrimes against property.

3. Cybercrimes against government.

-Cybercrimes committed against persons include various crimes like transmission of child-pornography, harassment of any one with the use of a computer such as e-mail. The trafficking, distribution, posting, and dissemination of obscene material including pornography and indecent exposure, constitutes one of the most important Cybercrimes known today. The potential harm of such a crime to humanity can hardly be amplified. This is one Cybercrime which threatens to undermine the growth of the younger generation as also leave irreparable scars and injury on the younger generation, if not controlled.

-Cybercrimes against property. Example wherein the damage was not done to a person but to the masses is the case of the Melissa virus. The Melissa virus first appeared on the internet in March of 1999. It spread rapidly throughout computer systems in the United States and Europe. It is estimated that the virus caused 80 million dollars in damages to computers worldwide. In the United States alone, the virus made its way through 1.2 million computers in one-fifth of the country's largest businesses. David Smith pleaded guilty on Dec. 9, 1999 to state and federal charges associated with his creation of the Melissa virus. There are numerous examples of such computer viruses few of them being "Melissa" and "love bug".

- Cyber-crimes relate to Cybercrimes against Government. Cyberterrorism is one distinct kind of crime in this category. The growth of internet has shown that the medium of Cyberspace is being used by individuals and groups to threaten the international governments as also to terrorise the citizens of a country. This crime manifests itself into terrorism when an individual "cracks" into a government or military maintained website.Coupled with this the actuality is that no computer system in the world is cracking proof. It is unanimously agreed that any and every system in the world can be cracked. The recent denial of service attacks seen over the popular commercial sites like E-bay, Yahoo, Amazon and others are a new category of Cyber-crimes which are slowly emerging as being extremely dangerous.

Cybercrime must be dealt with very seriously because it causes a lot of damage to businesses and the actual punishment should depend on the type of fraud used.
The penalty for illegally accessing a computer system ranges from 6 months to 5 years. The penalty for the unofficial modification on a computer ranges from 5 to 10 years.

Ok. Thanks you. So long now Bye bye then...
